ATHLETE FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY IS DAVID HUGHES!!!
Athlete for the month of January is David Hughes, this is his story!!
As we enter my seventy second New Year I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. My name is Dave Hughes and this is my story. I would first like to thank my sister, a long time yoga instructor and Sudbury xfitter, for getting me to try the new workout that is surging across the continents.
Secondly, a well deserved “thank you” to Francesca, Perry and Dino for their exceptional instruction, patience, and encouragement. And finally to Erin for all her help with the foundation classes.
I have had a long time membership at a local gym that featured cardio and weight lifting but all this changed when CROSSFIT AC came into my life. The group workouts offer a sense of comradery, incredible varied exercises and new “sweaty” friends. Awesome!
My accomplishments in life include twice finishing the Boston Marathon while running as a “bandit”. The first was a respectable three hours and eighteen minutes. The second 26.2 was with my wife, Terry, as we finished in four hours and thirty minutes. Still very respectable.
While in high school I was a three sport athlete which led me to Springfield College. At Springfield I played on the first undefeated football team and was named defensive MVP. I was elected captain my senior year. Great memories. I have since been inducted in the Springfield College Football Hall of Fame and the Hopkinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Springfield along with two other college diplomas helped me to develop my profession of being a teacher and football coach. The thirty years at Hopkinton High School resulted in being inducted in the Massachusetts High School Football Hall of Fame and a lot of great classroom memories.
Presently, I am retired from thirty five years of teaching and forty five years of coaching. I live with my wife, Terry, and are enjoying our nine grandchildren. I have a part time job at a golf course so we are able to play the 18 holes at Shining Rock.
In conclusion, crossfit is adding years to my life, I have more energy and get a very sound night sleep. My doctors keep saying “whatever you are doing keep doing it”. Go Crossfit AC!
My words of wisdom to crossfitters are to keep on going to the WOD as it will keep you forever younger.
Thanks again to everybody! See you at the BOX. Happy and healthy New Year to all.
