ATHLETE FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY IS AMY GATTO!!
Crossfit-AC athlete of the month is Amy Gatto, this is her story!!
What a surprise and an honor to be selected as Crossfit AC athlete of the month.
I have worked out my entire adult life and have always found the gym to be my place of comfort. To me working out wasn’t just something that I did but it was who I was. The gym was a big part of my life and very important to me. I had my children later in life and found that at 41 and after my 2nd baby, I didn’t love the gym workouts any longer. The gym became something that I had to do but I was no longer motivated to be there. I have never been a heavy person but had put on a few baby pounds and didn’t like the way I felt in my clothes which honestly transpired into how I felt in life. Working out when you feel like you don’t fit into your clothes and you are uncomfortable with yourself is like a double-edged sword. It is important to realize that we all just need to just keep moving, try something new or different, remain active and positive and eventually our bodies are happy, healthier and stronger than before.
I decided to try Crossfit AC several years ago, and after my very first class I was hooked. I remember training with Dino and Perry and thinking, I will never walk again but then the next day I was back. Honestly Crossfit was everything I loved about the gym and more. I like a down and dirty workout, getting dressed up and made up to workout really isn’t my thing. I find great motivation in other people and I love to see changes within myself but also within others.
Through the years I have followed Dino and Perry from Auburn to Millbury and now in Sutton. I consider Crossfit AC my home, comfort and family. The people that I have met through Crossfit have always been supportive and have always pushed me to try a little harder. I can honestly say that I love the workouts! Flipping the giant tire alone, the first time I could climb the rope to the top, doing consecutive double-unders instead of singles, 100 pull ups in one workout or doing a body weight clean and jerk are all accomplishments I’ve had here at AC and they were also something I never imagined I would do. I have met people in my travels and when they ask me if they could do Crossfit, my answer is always a big YES! I love to see other people motivated to push a little harder and try something that they have never done.
I have incorporated other types of workouts into my routine and have changed my eating to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. At 50 years old, I feel like I am in better shape than when I was 20. I have a great support group and am thankful for all the people that I work out with, who push me to drive harder, who cheer me on when I feel like I can’t do any more and for believing in me even when I don’t.
